Land survey field notes and related records, circa 1847-2010 (bulk 1847-1880s).

Field notebooks kept by federal government surveyors as they laid out the exterior and subdivision lines of each Minnesota township. Also an interior index, resurvey field notes, and related records. An interior index, created by the Minnesota Secretary of State's Office, allows a specific section line to be identified and found in the main body of field notebooks. The main body of field notebooks, circa 1847-circa 1920s (bulk circa 1847-circa 1920s) cover the exterior (township lines) and interior (subdivisions within the township) surveys. There are also notes for surveys of islands (1853-1907), Indian reservations and the Fort Ripley Military Reservation (1855-1894), and roads (1852-1857); resurvey field notes, 1856-2008 (bulk 1910s-1990s) and 2007-2010; and related records. The latter include a record of public land surveys in the state, circa 1847-1891, and maps of the Sioux Reserve, 1859; military post (Fort Gaines) site, 1848; Indian (Grand Portage) reservation, 1858; Township 159N, Ranges 42-43, 5th Meridian, 1909; and Lake Fremont, Sherburne County, circa 1920s.
